Is it any wonder?
Is it any wonder that people's mental health (including my own and many dear friend of mine and loved ones) is suffering so much in an ever increasingly competitive world which floats on the back of neoliberal economics of free market capitalism and materialism - not to mention a society of 'conformity'.
We're exposed daily to many forms of this such as reality TV shows that, indirectly but we have seen this shift, emphasize and actually promote this outlook on every day life. The world is "dog eat dog" so to speak. Anyone who doesn't fit in and who doesn't stand in line is deemed an outsider.
On the back of this we're then plunged deeper into a world that has a higher global outreach of exposure of information that in turn results in misinformation and manipulation through algorithms and suchlike. A world driven by this conformitism and bewilderingly competitiveness that isn't actually there.
The doctrine of free market trade means less money is then put into public serves because of this neoliberal doctrine resulting in less support for the collective, an outlook that favours individuals. It's profit over need. It means the rich are getting richer whilst the poorer are getting poorer and told to lump it because "life isn't fair" and we're told to fight against each other than ever question the system.
As long as we have the latest phone or other material items (most of which are accessories rather than necessities), don't raise any questions towards the neoliberal free market system or and keep nice and quiet we'll be fine. Which just isn't true because we're all suffering more in such an unfair world that isn't supporting itself.
It's all so utterly terrifying.
